There have been several good articles this week from mainstream publications...which means, of course, that the general public will take it more seriously...which is good! :)
This article is about the possibility that inducing labor for convenience could be...BAD! Oh, gee whiz. DUH. Something midwives had known for centuries...but at least medical "wisdom" is getting the real wisdom.

This article is about cutting the cord after the birth. Well, yet another thing that midwives have done for centuries but medical science is just "discovering." It is better for babies to wait to cut the cord later rather than right at the birth of a baby. DUH.

This is a link to an article about antibacterial soap...and how it may not be the best option. DUH. At least the general public will believe it now that a doctor had said it.

Isn't that funny that healthy/natural people are "freaks" until medical science backs up common sense????
That was GREAT information!! Thank you so much for sharing. I felt like such an outsider when everyone in my family (and her husband's) rah-rahed around my sister for a c-section after less than 12 hours of induced labor. "she just isn't going to dilate" the doctor said. i was more upset than anyone that this was the course they were taking, and all i could do was pray. now, she says that her next one will be a scheduled c-section. it's disappointing, to say the least. i'll take my 36 and 24 hour labors over having them cut me open any day!
next baby, i am going to ask them to delay the cord-cutting too. i wonder if it's just a matter of telling the doctor that that's what you want?
I'm going to email that cord clamping article to the midwives I work with. Really intersting:-) Thanks for sharing.
And...as for the antibacterial hand soap, yep...that's true. My microbiology teacher mentioned that to us last year. The fact that it kills the good and bad bacteria...not always a good thing. You leave yourself open to infection...w/out the "good" bacteria. Guess I should stop buying all that bath and body works antibacterial soap!!! Haaa***
Aimee,
Yes....and it makes me mad! It shouldn't, but it does. :)
Annie,
Yes, I have long labors myself and would rather that ANYDAY than a c-section.
You probably should put it in the birth plan that you want delayed cord cutting...and then have yur hubby be EXTRA vigilant in the birthing room to make sure they actually wait...and do not squeeze the cord to make you think it is done pulsing.
Picking a really supportive birth team is the best way to get what you want...and, of course, hire doula!!! :)
Krystal,
I do have some antibacterial stuff for certain times, but not for everyday use. Besides, it is expensive and the kids would waste it all :)
