Um, is that real? Yikes. I do agree that people don't think. I don't think it's only public education. I think that our society as a whole does a good job of making people believe they don't have to work hard.
I think the public education comment is rather offensive to the hardworking, underpaid professionals with advanced degrees who work to teach, diagnose, counsel, and care for children in public schools. The experience I have had as a parent has made me thankful and astounded daily by what my children have experienced through their public education.
I am in no way putting the teachers down. My parents were both public school teachers for years and I also have several friends that teach.
But the teachers are not the ones picking out the curriculum. They cannot really control what they 'have' to teach. A good teacher will take what he/she is given and make the most of it...but not all teachers do that either. Without the parents, a teacher has little do do with the education beyond the textbooks. Many parents have no desire to be an integral part of their child's education and therefore (by example) they are passing down that lazy, let-others-do-the-work attitude to their children.
And yes, I do believe, from research, reading and personal testimony of others...that the public school system DOES have an agenda with it's teachings and DOES play a big part in the apathy of adults. Just research the origins of public education and the people who initially wrote/chose the curriculum to be taught. These were not fine, upstanding individuals with the child's best interest at heart.
No, not everyone who goes to school turns out that way.
No, it is not being sinful to send your kids to school.
However, a parent needs to have their eyes open and be very involved in order to offset the things kids learn that are detrimental.
Wasn't the recent economic bailout of Wall St banks socialism? OUR money is paying for that...I didn't get them in that mess, but you can bet I am going to get taxed to pay for the pork filled bailout bill. Have you seen the bill and the stuff they snuck into it? WOODEN ARROW DEVELOPMENT? SERIOUSLY? How is that necessary? Aren't all taxes a form of socialism? By taxing someone the govt is taking thier money and re-distributing it to something/someone else... Was the RNC buying Sarah Palin and her family a $150K wardrobe a form of socialism? She didn't work for those clothes, nor did she pay for them - they re-distributed someone elses money to pay for her new clothes, which were purchased at some VERY pricey stores. Doesn't every President cut taxes in some form or another? Bush just seemed to make it benefit the upper class, and it seems McCains plan was geared toward them as well. So, because Obama's is geared to the middle class, which it seems from reading this blog you might benefit from, it's Socialism? In my opinion, I would much rather be taxed to help the poor than the rich.
Give the new President a chance. That's all I'm saying.
the 'bailout' plan is INSANE. one wonders how educated people can come to such a decision. and across party lines i have yet to speak to anyone who thinks it was a good idea.
the palin clothes is another example of stupidity. we do not know all the details, but so far it sounds ridiculous.
taxes in general are needed to improve certain things in our world/way of life. nothing is wrong with that. however, using rich peoples money (punishing them for hard work and success) to support those who are lazy is insane. there ARE people out there who are really in need and cannot work or do work but cannot make enough. i feel that first of all WE should care for them ourselves...although most people do not want to mess with it. churches should care for the windows and orphans (and single moms), those with disabilities/special needs, but they don't. i can stomach the 'redistribution' if money to those who REALLY need it, however, it is hard to tell nowdays who those people are.
by taking money from the rich and giving it to those who 'need' it we breed laziness. we punish hard work, determination and education.
i have worked with young mothers for years now and have heard more than once that they continue to have babies (with no job, no hubby/father, etc) becasue the more kids they have the more money they get every month.
i also know that so many people on food stamps buy their food and then pull out a $100 bill to purchase their alcohol and cigs.
i see them on medicaid and using expensive cell phones, wearing nicer clothes than we do and driving new vehicles. it is VERY hard not to judge. i do not walk in their shoes, but all i can see is what i see. i have seen truly poor people and most of these families are NOT poor...but they take advantage of the government to get more without working for it. all that to say........they will further take advantage of the system....and now, with the peoples money who went to school for years, worked hard and eventually succeeded. that is wrong.
after reading mr.obama's books i have a better view of what his beliefs are and what his plans are. i will be blogging more about that soon. suffice it to say...i do not agree with his politics in any way, shape or form...and it goes far beyond the 'socialistic' aspect. his years of hatred towards 'white people' is a bit harsh considering that he was a middle class kid from a white family (he met his dad once) who was well taken care of. and his view on abortion is an abomination. anyway...
i will sit back and watch him and see if my opinion changes.
